Preparing your car for transport
To save time and simplify the auto shipping process, we ask our clients to be informed on how to properly prepare their vehicle for transport.
- It is licensed for legal street use (if applicable)
- its parking brake is in proper functioning form
Make sure your vehicle is clean
A clean vehicle makes it much easier for our drivers to inspect your automobile before it is transported in order to make note of any pre-existing damages. Our drivers will complete extensive checklists in order to compare and compensate the owner if any damages are made during the transport process. Cleaning your vehicle will cut down on possible confusion and controversy if there is some kind of damage reported during shipping.
Make sure to make a checklist yourself before pick up/drop off to note any existing damages in order to maintain consistency and prevent disputes.
Remove Personal Items
Although self-explanatory, many owners will ship their vehicles and recognize a day after pick up that they’ve left something they need within the automobile. In order to prevent this and theft, please remove all items that are in the vehicle before pick up/drop off. We remind our clients to look for and remove a variety of items including but not limited to:
- non-standard radios (added in decks)
- extra speakers
- auto protective covers
- decorative items
- truck tailgate nets/covers
- roof racks (if not standard)
Removing personal items can also significantly lower the weight of the vehicle, allowing for a cheaper trip and us to keep our affordable rates.
Disable your Alarm
Once you have removed any personal items remember to disable your alarm system or remove it. Drivers may accidentally set this off during loading/unloading, and will not know how to disarm it. It is important that you completely disable it to ensure that no issues arise.
Empty your tank
Another important tip is to empty your gas tank to at least a quarter of a tank. This will significantly reduce the weight of the vehicle, and once again allow us to offer you such affordable rates.
If you’re shipping your vehicle between a very warm and cold climate, we suggest applying antifreeze before pick up. This will prevent damage experienced from transporting through low temperatures.
Once you’ve completed these steps and are ready to ship, give us a call or fill out our quote form. If you need some more information, give us a call now, our representatives are available!
